Remember the draft during Vietnam? I don’t but then I was just a baby. Apparently the Selective Service folks are preparing for the possibility of drafting computer nerds and people with specific foreign language skills. Put down the poster board! Don’t mobilize the protesters yet…

Selective Service claims they are only preparing for the possibility. Apparently plans for drafting medical personnel are already in place and have been for some time so this move is simply a planning exercise.

Such a draft would probably present a serious financial hardship to any nerd with decent skills since such folks routinely earn six figures. For those not in the know, six figures is a lot of money in the military. You would have to hold the rank of something in the neighborhood of General or better to make that kind of money and I doubt the army (or any other branch of the armed services) is going to be tossing out rank like that…
