Here’s the deal. Chris was kind enough to throw an invite my way to give to one of you nice folks. This presented me with the challenge of determining how to give the invite away…
UPDATE: I now have 5 invites for the contest so the first five valid entries get an invite.
Since I spend a lot of time and effort covering GMail and GMail resources, you can help me out by submitting a new GMail utility or resource as a comment to this entry. First 5 valid entries win an invite. You will notice a search box available at the top of the front page of the site. Use it to validate that your resource is not already listed here.
The following GMail resources are in the queue to be added and are not eligible:
* gmailarchiver.pl - a perl archiver script for gmail
* GMail Scoop - web site
* pine addressbook exporter - you get the idea…
Good luck and remember to post your entry as a comment to this entry.
Contest notes:
1. You are not obligated to purchase anything but we appreciate your business. ![]()
2. One invite per person. Let’s not be greedy.
3. I, Aimless Bob, am the final word on all matters related to the contest.
4. Your odds of winning are much better than playing your local lottery but probably not quite as good as playing red or black in a game of roulette. Odds of winning can’t be calculated until the contest ends and the number of total entries is known.
5. Void where prohibited.
6. Taxes are the sole responsibility of the winners.

What a sad, slow start. I know for a fact that there are at least 5 GMail utilities/resources unknown to me at this time. After all, the web is a big place. Come on people. Show me what you’ve got.

I might be wrong but I found this site. It deals mostly with search engines, in particular Google. Recently they also started posting some news on GMail’s capabilities since it’s a combo of search engine and mail system… Hope I win an invite…

Well, I won’t be listing the site as the have no specific GMail view that only enumerates GMail news but I will give you an invite for effort and since you are the first person to respond.
Enjoy.

http://www.moneycontrol.com/news/highlights/newsdetail_new.php?filename=news24062004102551.htm is information on an Indian based company that may be powering Google’s own version of the messenger I stated in my last post. Wow very interesting if I may say so myself…

Gmail may soon come out with one terabyte for their free email service. One gmail user posted how he now had 1000000 MB, you can see a shot at http://www.scripting.com/images/archiveScriptingCom/2004/05/18/terabyte.gif
Can you hook me up with a Gmail invite?
August 22nd, 2004 @11:30 am
Okay, GMail and a terabyte is old news. Most important, it is news, not a resource or utility. The same goes for the moneycontrol.com news item about the instant messenger.
On the other hand, the gmailinvitation.com link sounds like it should be a winner - but then I went there and was forced to register to view the messages. Strike one and quite stupid as you typically want the search engines to be able to see your content so they can send people to your site. Then I actually read the posts… Strike two. High noise, very, very little content concerning GMail (remember, the site name *is* gmailinvitation.com.) And the final strike - they want to develop a gmail instant messenger. OK, cool. Uh, how is this related to GMail? It is a branding statement and since they don’t own GMail it will be hard for them to brand their messenger as GMail. Plus, there are dozens of instant messenging clients available for free that are simply awesome. GMailInvitations.com is soliciting donations to *start* development on an open-source instant messenger client… I don’t need to tell you what a stretch that is. There are literally thousands of open-source projects and only a handful that have ever raised significant funds for development and those funds were never raised prior to several releases of the software.

Google Bans Selling Gmail
The party’s over! (well, it was already over.) CRN reports:
Google has banned profiteers from making a buck off of its free Gmail e-mail service.
Last week, Google modified Gmail’s policy by adding a new item to the prohibited list. Users may not “sell, trade, resell, or otherwise exploit for any unauthorized commercial purpose or transfer any Gmail account.”

Well I Found A Site With A Few Gmail Apps?..

I Am Not Sure If That Is What You Wanted Or Not.

Slick Sam is persistent but no news. I am looking for GMail resources (forums, software, you get the idea) On the other hand, Mark Lyon’s list of utilities is a winner. I actually knew about it but I never added it (I did add his GML tool) When I first viewed his list many weeks ago it was sparse and did not contain anything I did not already have. Plus, he is very focused on the import space and has several good links that I do not. Thanks littles.
3 GMail invites remain.

More Gmail utilities…

lol, hope i eventually find something you want
August 23rd, 2004 @9:51 am
Firstly, this site is a great resource, so keep up the good work. Anyways here is another pop tool that lets you send/receive email from pop3 clients.
The tool is called psGmail, its fairly new but it is actively developed.
found here:

It might be worth a review.

August 23rd, 2004 @6:52 pm
This website isnt in your search, but i dont know if its what you want. It has a game for winning gmail invites http://www.freegmailinvites.com
August 23rd, 2004 @7:15 pm
Okay, here’s the rundown on the latest entries -
* psGMail wins an invite. I had seen this earlier this week but have not added it yet.
* gmailtips.com is Jim’s GMail Tips with a new domain. same site. sorry.
* Sitepoint. no go. Not enough Gmail in the Google forum to be worthwhile.
* Slick Sam wins one! He gets an E+ for effort and an invite, finally. freegmailinvites.com is solid entry.
1 invite remains.
August 23rd, 2004 @7:19 pm
Oh, and Pop Goes the GMail has changed its name to gPopper and it is already listed. I changed the name yesterday as I recall.
August 24th, 2004 @5:52 am
How about this forum: http://googlegmails.com ?
August 24th, 2004 @10:01 am
Already have googlemails.com.
August 24th, 2004 @10:29 pm
hey, are there still any invites left? if so, my email is sshooter_13@yahoo.com, if i need to give you the email i want, it’s citizen7@gmail.com or eodavidson@gmail.com . I don’t know if there are any invites left. but if there are I’d like one very much, and i would appreciate it soo much, thanks!
August 24th, 2004 @11:47 pm
i found these two sites, i’m not sure if they have already been found but I think they’d be quite nifty to use.
this is for your yahoo accounts -
http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net/
and this another one for your hotmail accounts -
http://www.e-eeasy.com/GetMail.aspx
hope you find them useful
August 24th, 2004 @11:56 pm
sorry, but I didn’t realize that the hotmail link had already been mentioned, but I don’t believe that the yahoo one has. sorry for all of that
August 25th, 2004 @12:04 am
Yes, the Hotmail app is already listed. I ran across YPops early on but since it does not offer a forwarding feature decided not to list it. As it stands, it simply acts as a POP3 server which will get your mail into another program. On further reflection I think I should list it given that there is no other utility listed (that is free) that will help users to get there mail off of Yahoo.
The final invite goes to citizen… and the comments are close.
Thanks everyone for your participation!
