My GMail account now shows 1072MB instead of 1000MB. Looks like Yahoo and company have some disk arrays to install this weekend…

Lots of us were wondering if Gmail would leave beta today, it’s first anniversary. The answer, according to this News.com article, is no. Gmail remains in beta.However, the same story reports that Google is doubling the amount of storage space it offers from 1GB to 2GB today and then will add a “yet-to-be-determined amount of extra storage daily with no plans to stop.” It looks as if the day of the unlimited inbox is here.

The increasing by the second thing was the april fool’s day joke.
It will hit 2gb and stay there until they decide to raise it again.
But they aren’t doing a daily increase.

Neat trick though as the growth seems to be tracking across all GMail accounts. I assume when we reach midnight Pacific time we will all have arrived at 2GB. So much for Infinity+1.

Check the http://www.gmail.com/ login page for a real time measure. It’s accurate (well, at the MB level, which is all the interface shows inside an account) right now.

2072 Mo now, I’ve made a quick calculation to know how it growth … 33 Bytes a second for a total of … one Go every year

I find that to be true.
