Hi, Up for auction is a jar filled with at least 400 grams of yttrium oxide, one of the compounds used for making the 123 YBaCu superconductor ceramic. This material is originally from the former Soviet Union. A copy of the label is shown in the photo section, as well as a photo of the jar itself. A Russian translation says its marked as grade B, but noone knows what that means so far as purity goes. Here's the bottom line: I have made small quantities of superconductor ceramic that does display the Meissner effect (see 3rd photo) using this same lot of yttrium oxide as the yttrium source, when cooled in liquid nitrogen. Yttrium oxide can be fairly pricey; up to $200 for 500 grams, so here's your chance to get your superconductor, or other science project rolling cheap. This minimum 400g quantity is starting at $40, or $0.1 per gram. This auction is for the jar of yttrium oxide only, not the superconductor or magnet!
