Done many years back by an elderly woman, this tidy, clean and beautifully cross stitched piece measures 14 1/4"H x 17"W. It appears to be done on a natural and soft linen. It was framed in a soft grey blue wood frame by her son. Due to the camera, it looks slightly bowed but is not. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL EARLY VINTAGE, FINE LINEN CLOTH WITH 12 MATCHING NAPKINS, WITH A GREAT AMOUNT OF VARIOUS WORK. TO START WITH THE CLOTH HAS A VERY FINE 2.1/4" EDGING OF HAND WORKED FILLET LACE. IN EACH OF THE CORNERS OF THE CLOTH THERE IS VERY FINE EMBROIDERY IN A VERY PALE BLUE SILK THREAD, WITH AN INSERT OF FINE NEEDLEPOINT LACE SURROUNDED BY A GREAT DEAL OF RICHELIEU WORK. THIS WORK ALSO CONTINUES ALL AROUND THE OUTER EDGE OF THE CLOTH.TOWARD THE CENTRE THERE IS MORE OF THE SAME TYPE OF WORK FOLLOWING THE SAME LINE AS THE OUTER EDGE BUT FURTHER IN, THE NEEDLEPOINT LACE DESIGN IN THE OUTER EDGE IS DIFFERENT FROM THE INNER EDGE, I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHED THEM TO SHOW YOU. THE OVERALL MEASUREMENTS OF THE CLOTH ARE 68" WIDE X 84" LONG - 173cm x 212.5cm. THE 12 MATCHING NAPKINS HAVE SIMILAR WORK IN JUST ONE CORNER, BUT HAVE THE FINE FILLET LACE EDGING MEASURING 1/2" DEEP - 1.5cm. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL SET, AND NICE TO SEE ALL THE NAPKINS HAVE REMAINED TOGETHER. IT IS A LOVELY WHITE AND THE EMBROIDERY A VERY PALE BLUE. IT IS IN WONDERFUL CONDITION WITH NO STAINS OR DAMAGE. IF I AM BEING OVER CRITICAL, THERE ARE ONE OR TWO PLACES ON THE EDGE OF THE FILLET LACE ON THE TABLECLOTH WHICH ARE A BIT FUZZY, BUT THIS IN NO WAY DETRACTS FROM OR CONSTITUTES A FAULT WITH THIS LOVELY ITEM. This exciting silk satin woven throw with subtle stripes also makes a great tablecloth or shawl.......very much in the style of Arts & Craft, and makes a stunning accent piece in Arts & Craft room. The colors are unusual and not easy to find: Prussian Blue; Light Blue; Gold; Silver gray; Black; Celery; and a touch of Rose. Totally reversible (one side is darker showing more black)! Antique tablecloth has a very bronzed, burnished effect and looks wonderful with brass, bronze, and/or copper. I would guess the age to be 1920s....but I am not sure. Measures 50" x 53" (without fringe). Other than two small areas where fringe is missing, condition is excellent.
